It is the farm’s desire to enhance and promote Collio’s area, as outstanding Italian winery in the world. In this area of border, where the good winds of Adriatic Sea and Julian Pre-Alps meet, and where the land, made of friable marls and blocks of sandstone dating to million years ago, is really rich of minerals, some of the best white wines in the world and excellent red wines come to life and are ready to be discovered.

In this regard, for our white wines we chose to cultivate exclusively indigenous grape varieties for their innate ability to connect with these areas: Istrian Malvasia, Ribolla Gialla and Tocai Friulano.

Likewise, for our red wines we chose to only cultivate grape varieties that over the years have gained the name of “indigenous”for the unicity of the quality characteristics they were able to develop: Merlot, Cabernec Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

To explain in the best way Collio’s soul, the wine making choice has been to only produce bottle of White Collio and Red Collio obtained by blending different indigenous grape varieties, able to reproduce the many nuances of this territory.

Moreover, believing that great traditions originate from innovation, the farm has since this year started the fascinating adventure of P.I.W.I. vines, planted in lands of the farm that are currently not recognized as suitable for the certification Doc Collio.

The P.I.W.I. vines available today are the result of over 50 years of study and work of the University of Freiburg and of Udine – along with the nurseries Rauscedo. These grape varieties are created from the crossing of clones of classic grape varieties such as Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Tocai or Merlot, with vines of Asiatic or American origins, naturally resistant to downy mildew and powdery mildew.

The vines that are created like this are able to maintain the quality characteristic of noble parental and to have a high resistance to fungal diseases, which ensure a drastic reduction of the number of treatments with plant protection products and allows us to talk about real sustainability, with good reason.

Anyway, all our grapes are cultivated following the discipline of the voluntary integrated pest management, which aims to always prefer natural solutions when they exist, they are possible and economically sustainable in the context of our territorial reality. No weeding is therefore made and the fertilizers used are produced by our horses feeding on fodder naturally produced in our fields.

Our bees that live in 25 hives in the woods beside the vines also benefit from this situation offering us an exquisite and genuine honey and collaborate in maintaining a sustainable environment.

The attention to sustainability and to environmental impact also continues in the winery during the vinification and until the realization of the final product: like this the bottle is lighter using less glass, the label has a certification that ensures the use of materials from certified forests, and the stopper made of zero-emission sugarcane, perform better than ordinary cork stoppers and is 100% recyclable.
